Capture by approaching — or by backing away.
Pieces step one point along the drawn lines. There are two ways to capture: move toward an enemy piece and stop next to it, or start next to one and move directly away from it. Either way you take that piece and every enemy piece behind it in an unbroken line. Capturing is compulsory. Take every enemy piece to win.
Madagascar's national game. In the 19th-century kingdom it was said to be used to read omens before battle. The full board is 9x5, but a smaller 5x5 version has been played for just as long. Having both "capture by approach" and "capture by withdrawal" is rare worldwide — here, stepping backwards is an attack.
How many pieces you take depends on how many stand in a line. Line your own pieces up and one move can sweep them all away. When the enemy lines up, look for a point on the extension of that line. Since capturing is compulsory, you can also bait a capture to break up their shape.
