Korean stick-throwing race. Shortcuts and stacking decide it.
Throw four sticks; how many land flat side up decides how far you go (1 = Do, 2 = Gae, 3 = Geol, 4 = Yut, none = Mo, worth 5). Yut and Mo earn another throw. Land exactly on a corner and you may cut across the shortcut. Land on an opponent and they go back to the start — and you throw again. Your own pieces stack and travel together. Get all four home to win.
Played with family at Seollal, the Korean lunar new year, and traced back to the Three Kingdoms period. The sticks are flat on one side and round on the other. "Mo" — every stick landing round side up — is the rarest throw and moves you furthest. The board is a square with diagonals, and those diagonals are the shortcuts.
You can only take a shortcut by landing exactly on a corner, so a small throw is sometimes worth more than a big one. Stacking moves two pieces at once, but a single capture sends them both back. The closer you are to home, the more a stack costs you.
